ABSTRACT

Nora Fudhla, 2307.008, The Correlation of Using High Touch Approach and Students’ Test Result in English Teaching and Learning, (Study at Thawalib Islamic Boarding School Parabek), a Thesis, State Islamic College Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi, 2011.

This research aimed to reveal the correlation between the use of High Touch Approach and students’ test result in English teaching and learning. It was found that Thawalib Parabek had treated the students by High Touch Approach whose purposes are to make intimate relationship between teacher and students and also to increase the students’ achievement in English teaching and learning. But, in fact, although the teacher had applied this approach, the students’ test results were still various. Thus, the research was done in Thawalib Parabek to know whether the use of High Touch Approach gave significant correlation toward students’ test result in English teaching and learning.
The research was a quantitative research. The researcher used questioner to collect the data about the use of High Touch Approach and teacher’s documentary to collect the data about the students’ test result. The population of this research was the second grade students in Thawalib Parabek who were treated High Touch Approach, they were 2.3 and 2,4 classes as much as 46 students. To determine the sample, the researcher used total sampling. It means all of the population was researched. To analyzed the data collected, the researcher used Spearman’s Coefficient of Rank Correlation (r) and to test the Hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula and consult the result into t-table with a=0,05
The result showed that the coefficient of correlation (r) gotten was -0,149. It means, there was negative correlation between the use of High Touch Approach toward students’ test result in English teaching and learning. Then, the contribution level obtained was 2,2%. In other words, the use of  High Touch Approach only gave contribution as much as 2,2% toward students’ test result. Besides, based on Hypothesis testing, the t-score gotten was 0,977 whereas t-table on a=0,05 was 1,6802. It means, the t-score was smaller rather the t-table. Thus, the Ha was rejected and the Ho which stated there is no significant correlation of using High Touch Approach toward students’ test result in English teaching and learning was accepted.
